Key Cutting & Programming FAQs
How long does key cutting and programming take?+
Most standard keys are cut and programmed within 30-60 minutes from our arrival. Complex smart proximity keys on newer vehicles may take up to 90 minutes. We always give you a time estimate upfront based on your specific vehicle make and model.
Can you cut a key without the original?+
Yes — in most cases we can generate a new key from your vehicle's VIN, lock data, or immobiliser system. This is a common service for lost-all-keys situations and saves you the cost and hassle of towing to a main dealer.
Do you cut motorcycle keys?+
Yes — we cut and programme keys for most motorcycle brands including Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, BMW Motorrad, Triumph, and Harley-Davidson. We can also clone transponder chips where the bike uses an immobiliser system.
What's the difference between cloning and programming a transponder?+
Cloning copies the data from an existing working key chip onto a new blank — quick but requires you to have at least one working key. Programming writes fresh immobiliser data to a new transponder chip that the vehicle then accepts — this works even when all keys are lost but requires diagnostic equipment.
Do I need to reset all my keys when one is replaced?+
Not usually. We can add a new key without affecting existing ones. However, in some cases where keys are lost or stolen, we recommend erasing all old keys from the immobiliser and programming only the keys in your possession — this removes the security risk of the missing key.
