"I'd driven up from London to see my mum in Driffield. Stopped at a petrol station on the A614 just outside town — 2014 BMW 320d, keyless start. Filled up, got back in, pressed the button — nothing. Dash lit up but no crank. The key was recognised but the CAS module wouldn't authorise the start. Tried the spare in the glovebox — same thing. EWS Systems (pre-2007)

How much does a BMW key replacement cost?+
BMW keys start from £150 for older E-series models. Laser-cut diamond keys are £180-£250. Comfort Access smart keys range from £220-£350. A main dealer typically charges £250-£400+, so we're significantly cheaper. All prices include mobile callout and full programming.
What is EWS and can you programme it?+
EWS (Elektronische Wegfahrsperre) is BMW's immobiliser system from the mid-90s to 2007. We programme EWS2, EWS3, and EWS4 on E36, E46, E39, E38, E53, and E83 models. We write the transponder directly to the EWS module — no dealer visit, no module replacement.
Can you add a key to a BMW CAS module?+
Yes. CAS (Car Access System) runs on BMWs from 2007 onwards. We programme keys via OBD for CAS1 through CAS4+ across E-series, F-series, and most G-series BMWs. If you've lost all keys, we can still recover and programme new ones.
How long does a BMW key take?+
BMW key programming takes 45-90 minutes due to the security complexity. Older E-series models are usually quicker (45-60 mins). CAS3/CAS4 F-series keys need careful encryption handling so may take a little longer. The result is a fully working key — remote, transponder, and comfort access where applicable.
Can you replace a BMW Comfort Access smart key?+
Yes. We supply and programme Comfort Access proximity fobs for all BMWs. The key will work for keyless entry, push-button start, and walk-away locking — exactly like the original. We code it directly to the CAS module.
The remote works but the car won't start — what's going on?+
This means the transponder chip (immobiliser) isn't being read, even though the remote central locking works fine — they're separate systems in a BMW key. It could be a failed chip, an EWS/CAS sync problem, or a broken antenna coil in the key. We can diagnose and fix it on the spot.
