Smart Proximity Key

Keyless entry and start, found on current XC40, XC60, XC90, V60 (2018+), and S60 (2019+). The key stays in your pocket — car detects it and unlocks on touch. Coded via the CEM module.

Remote Flip Key (Older)

The standard Volvo remote key with a flip-out blade, used on pre-2018 V40, V60, S60, and older XC60 models. Contains an ID48 transponder chip. Reliable, common, and straightforward to programme.

Classic Blade Key (Pre-1999)

Simple transponder or non-transponder keys for classic Volvos — 850, 940, early V70, S70. Some have an ID44 or ID48 chip; many don't. Volvo enthusiasts in East Yorkshire trust us with their classics.

How much does a Volvo car key cost?+
Volvo keys cost £130-£240. Older blade keys from £99. Remote flip keys (V40, V60, S60 up to ~2018) are £130-£170. Current smart proximity keys (XC40, XC60, XC90, newer V60/S60) cost £180-£240. All include mobile callout. Dealers charge £300-£500.
Can you programme a Volvo XC60 or XC90 key?+
Yes — the XC60 and XC90 use Volvo's CEM for key authentication, which we code with specialist diagnostic kit. A replacement XC60/XC90 key from us costs £180-£240 versus £350-£500+ from a Volvo dealer.
How long does Volvo key programming take?+
Volvo key programming takes 40-60 minutes. The CEM security module requires the key to authenticate with the central electronic module, adding a few minutes. We carry XC40, XC60, XC90, V40, V60, and S60 key blanks.
Do you programme older Volvo keys (V70, S80, 850)?+
Yes — the V70 and S80 are common locally and we programme replacement keys for all years. Pre-1999 basic transponder, 1999-2005 ID48 chip, and 2005+ remote flip keys. From £99 for older models.
Does Volvo On Call stop you from programming a key?+
No — Volvo On Call operates independently of the key system. We code the new key to the CEM and your connected services continue to work normally. No dealership visit needed.
Can you just cut a new blade if the remote still works?+
Yes — if your remote works but the blade is worn or snapped, we cut a replacement blade and transfer the electronics to a new case for £65-£85. Much cheaper than a full key replacement.
